Sometimes billed as the tallest bamboo in the world, it grows very well in Costa Rica, especially in humid regions. Very vigorous with large leaves, minimal lower branches and somewhat twisty culms with a whitish-gray covering. In Thailand and Southern China the young shoots are used as a vegetable.
