Definitions & Measurements

Culm: The aerial part of a bamboo or other grass, usually erect but may be leaning, climbing or creeping.

Esterilla: A section of culm that has been opened flat with a hatchet; used for covering flat or curved surfaces such as table tops, walls, ceilings, etc.

Internode: The segment of a stem bounded by two nodes.

Node: The place on a stem (or other axis) where a leaf is inserted, and where the otherwise (usually) hollow culm is divided by a septum or diaphragm.

Offset: An offset is a small division from a clump, including rhizome(s), roots and culm(s). In large tropical bamboos these can sometimes be cumbersome.

Plant measurements given: The plant measurements represent the size when maturity is reached:. culm diameter X culm height (+/-).

1 centimeter = 0.393700787 inches

MDF: Medium-Density Fiberboard
